An Accessible screen acting program for those who can’t commit to full time study

The TAFTA Part Time Program is a unique program designed specifically for emerging or established actors looking to take the next step in their career.

Over four terms you will deepen your understanding of the art and craft of acting, not only receiving the tools your need to fulfil your potential as a fully-formed actor, but as an all-round Film & Television creative too. This program is a safe and supportive platform for you to take control of your career - empowering you to be so much more than just an actor.

With classes only two evenings a week, The TAFTA Part Time Program gives you the freedom to maintain work responsibilities, studies, lifestyle, and even auditions and acting work whilst doing your training.

 PRICE

The Part Time program is a 35 week journey into practical screen acting training, content creation, industry knowledge and mindset training where we cultivate you the artist, you the actor, and you the screen creative, and guide you to be industry ready upon graduation

  • In the first term you will be briefly reintroduced to the principles of acting, bringing all students up to the same level. You will then go through an intensive program of voice, movement, scene analysis, and audition technique, culminating in a Self-Tape at the end of Term 1, where you can evaluate your progress over the first ten weeks!

  • In Term Two we begin to expand your acting knowledge with John’s Emotion’s Technique and Accent Work. You will then pivot into Content Creation module, where you will work on a Short Film Screenplay and learn how to produce your own work, more deeply understanding story structure and the filmmaking process as a whole. The term will conclude with Table Reads of your Short Films where you get to cast your classmates!

  • Term 3 begins with Emotions #2, the challenging and vital second part of John’s Emotions Technique. You will then study with working Producers, Directors and Casting Directors on Producing, Directing, and Casting; learning first hand how to work on a set, work closely with a director, and the intimately understand the casting process.

    Term 3 finishes with Audition Impact - an exploration on what is required to really stand out with your self tape/in room audition and book the role!

  • Term 4 is the culmination of all your hard work. You will immediately begin an Eight-Week Module of Advanced Scenework; breaking down and performing challenging scenes every week. During this module you will be work closely with a working Director on Taking Direction - honing your craft as well as the actor-director relationship.

    Closing out the program, you will take part in the brand new Industry Ready module. This Four-Week module will teach you all about this crazy industry so that you are ready upon graduate to navigate the ups and downs.

    Finally the program ends with the filming of your two contrasting self tape scenes - giving you usable footage you can send to agents upon completion of the program!

You’ve finished the course - now What?

Finally, you will undertake a professional showreel shoot, where you will receive a professionally shot and edited scene. You will also get the opportunity to crew on your fellow actors showreels, so you can get crucial hands-on experience of the entire filmmaking process, so you’ll be prepared when you get on set.

Actors will be guided on how to contact agents with their new Showreel. The TAFTA staff are available for advice and support in this exciting time.

Representation cannot be guaranteed, however, many TAFTA graduates have been successful at securing an agent both here in Australia and in America. 

What makes tafta different?

 

ON-CAMERA TRAINING FOCUS

Almost all of your training at TAFTA will be done in front of a camera - either in the studio or on location.

You will learn to find comfort in front of the lens, increase camera awareness, and practice the power of stillness, conveying a story with just a look, or even making wild physicality authentic and believable on screen.

You will get copies of all your footage every class so that you can assess your own performance in playback, and monitor your growth as an actor.

THE MODERN ACTOR

At TAFTA, we strongly believe the modern actor needs to be a multi-hyphenate, to create and capitalise on all opportunities in the industry.

At TAFTA we facilitate learning in other aspects of the Film & TV Industry. You will learn skills including screenwriting, producing, content creation, and crewing, so you can take your career in your own hands and aren’t waiting for the phone to ring.

On top of that, we encourage our students to explore other ways of being creative. Many of our alumni have gone on to write, produce, direct, and star in award-winning short films, plays and films!

TAFTA not only arms actors with the craft required to become a professional performer in the industry but also aids in developing personal strengths and the mental capacity to handle the hardships of the industry.
